N. Sears enlisted November 20, 1862 at Charleston with Capt. Miller. Pvt. Sears was in the 21st Bttn, Ga Cav, Co. C until February 13, 1864 when the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry was organized through consolidation, Co. C of the 21st was then Co. B of the 7th.

Pvt. Sears was present through October except for a short time in April when he was absent without leave. His horse was captured June 11, 1864 during the Battle of Trevillian Station.

He was admitted to Jackson Hospital November 5, 1864 diagnosed with rubeola. Pvt. Sears was furloughed for 60 days December 8th. His destination was Augusta.
