A.M. Swaney enlisted August 18, 1862 at Charlston with Capt. Miller. Pvt. Swaney was in Co. C, 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. B, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

When preparing to leave Georgia to Virginia, Pvt. Swaney was detailed to go with the company baggage.

On June 11, 1864 Swaney was wounded during the Battle of Trevillian Station. It appears on the September/October roll that Pvt. A.M. Swaney transferred. No details.
