J.F. Wisenbaker enlisted May 16, 1862 in Savannah with Capt. Miller. Pvt. Wisenbaker served in Co. C, 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. B, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

He was present on roll calls until June 11, 1864 when he was captured during the battle of Trevillian Station, Va. He was sent to Fortress Monroe, Va. on June 20th and on July 25th was transferred to Elmira Prison, N.Y.

On May 15, 1865, Elmira records show that he was conscripted on May 15, 1862 and shows that he desires to go to his home in Savannah. When Pvt. J.F. Wisenbaker was released on June 30, 1865, his residence was listed as Valdosta. His description was given as: complexion, florid; hair, dark; eyes, blue; height 6 ft. 0 inches.
