William Adkins was enlisted in Co. B, 24th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry on September 5, 1863 at Camp Spencer by Capt. Anderson.
On September 13, 1864 the 24th and 2 other units were consolidated forming the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry, at which time William was transferred to Co. C, 7th Ga Cav.
On April 18, 1864 Pvt. Adkins was detailed as Teamster at Lynchburg. In August, he was shown absent, on special service as Teamster and once again in October.
Each time shown as receiving pay at a rate of 25 cents.
William Adkins was paroled at Hartwell , Ga. on May 17, 1865.
