L.D. Bowman enlisted January 7, 1864 in Elbert County with Lt. Langston. He served in Company B, 24th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry until February 13, 1864 when the 24th and two other units were consolidated to form the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry. The Co. B of the 24th became the Co. C of the 7th.

Pvt. Bowman was injured and hospitalized June 11, 1864 and his horse was killed in action. On August 23rd he was hospitalized with diarrhoea, went back on duty on October 8th and received a clothing issue at Jackson Hospital. In late October he was listed as sick and was issued a sick furlough for 30 days from October 27th.
