With the consolidation of units, Pvt. Brown was assigned to Company C, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry. He was listed as being present through October 1864. In July his horse died. In the Sept / October roll, his horse was lost in action along with saddle, bridle, halter and saber.

On December 25, 1864 in Greensboro, N.C., he left command to remount and in the face of the enemy was forced to surrender.
