R.E. Cunningham enlisted February 1, 1864 at Camp Semmes with Capt. Davies. Cpl. Cunningham was with the 24th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry, Co. B until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. C, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

Cpl. Cunningham was present on roll calls until July '64 when he was sick and received a sick furlough on July 26th. The September/October roll has Cunningham present and has a horse belonging to the Government, saddle, bridle, halter, and sabre lost in action.
