Francis M. Fortson enlisted August 19, 1863 with Capt. Davies at Camp Lee.
He served in the 24th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry, Co. B until, through consolidation of units,
the 7th Georgia Cavalry was organized, at which time he was assigned to Co. C in the 7th.
In August 1864 he was listed as, sick - in the hospital and as being without a horse since August 1st.
Pvt. F.M. Fortson died November 27, 1864.
On a Register of Claims, Fannie Fortson ?(illegible) applied for his death benefits.
