R.M. Mongin enlisted February 1, 1863 in Augusta. He was in Co. C then Co. B, 24th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. C, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

Pvt. Mongin was present on roll calls until August 23rd, '64 when he was admitted to Jackson Hospital at Richmond with febris remt. (remittant fever). He returned to duty on September 13th.

From mid September through October, Pvt. Mongin was present on the roll calls.
