J.(G) V. enlisted June 21, 1862 in Elbert County. Pvt. Stone was in Co. C then D, 24th Battalion, Ga. Cav. until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. C, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

On the March/April roll, Pvt. Stone was absent, on detail, ordered to report to Columbia, S.C. May 7, 1864. He had no horse in August. He was captured near Petersburg, September 29th and was forwarded to City Point, Va. then to Point Lookout.

On October 8, 1864 J.V. Stone joined U.S. Service.
