W.B. Buffington enlisted January 3, 1864 in Hall County. He was in Co. C, 24th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry and was transferred to Co. D, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry on February 13, 1864.

His records show that he was present to all roll calls until November. In October he was without a horse. On November 6th he was admitted to Jackson Hospital at Richmond, diagnosed as having pneumonia. Pvt. Buffington returned to duty December 13, 1864.
