Jacob C. Chancey enlisted September 22, 1862 at Camp Fort with Capt. Hopkins. Pvt. Chancey served in Co. A then in Co. C of the 24th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. D, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

Chancey was present on all roll calls through October. In October he was with out a horse. He entered Jackson Hospital at Richmond on November 5, '64 diagnosed as having heart disease. He returned to duty on December 9th. Pvt. Chancey appeared on the roster of the Hospital which indicated he was working there on light duty.
