J. Coffee enlisted in Company C, 24th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry on August 4, 1863 in Hall County. On February 13, 1864 when units were consolidated to form the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry, he was assigned to Company D.
A muster roll shows him "without a horse since 4/17/64".
Pvt. J. Coffee was captured at Athens, Ga. on May 8, 1865 and paroled.
He is buried at Timberidge Baptist Church in Hall County.
