G.W. Ennis (J.W.) enlisted September 22, 1862 at Camp Fort. He served in Co. A and later in Co. C of the 24th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry.

He was transferred to the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry, Co.D as the result of the consolidation of the 24th and two other units.

In April he had a short leave without permission. In the May / August roster he was listed as present, without a horse. In August 18, 1864 he was admitted to Jackson Hospital at Richmond, diagnosed as "feb int". Pvt Ennis received a 30 day furlough Sept 26, 1864.
