Samuel Loper enlisted September 22, 1862 at Camp Fort with Capt. T.S. Hopkins. Pvt. Loper was with the 24th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry, Co. A and then Co. C until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. D, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.
In March and April of 1864, Loper was acting as Hospital Cook. Afterwards, he was back and present with the company. Pvt. Samuel Loper received multible wounds while in action and died September 27, 1864.
