On March/April 1864, Pvt. Dixon was listed as present and received a leave April 18th with instructions to rejoin the Company at Augusta.
On June 11, 1864, Dixon was captured during the Battle of Trevillian Station. He was sent to Fortress Monroe, Va. June 20th and on July 9, '64 was transferred to Elmira Prison, N.Y.
As it happened to many men who went to Elmire, Pvt. James Dixon died of typhoid fever on September 25, 1864 and was buried at Elmira in grave # 422.
