Douglass was present on roll calls until June 11, 1864 when he was captured during the Battle of Trevillian Station. He was sent to Fortress Monroe, Va. on June 20th and on July 9th was transferred to Elmira Prison, N.Y.
Pvt. D.E. Douglass died September 25, 1864 of remittent fever and was buried at Elmira in grave # 437. His effects were listed as; 1 hat, 1 pair shoes, and 1 coat.
