William Guyer enlisted May 13, 1862 in Savannah with Capt. Banks. Pvt. Guyer was in Co. B, 21st Battalion, Ga Cav until February 13, 1864 when the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry was organized through consolidation, Co. B of the 21st was then Co. E of the 7th.

Guyer was captured at Trevillian Station June 11, 1864. He was sent to Fortress Monroe June 20th and transferred to Elmira Prison, N.Y. July 25, 1864.

Pvt. William Guyer died January 3, 1865 of pneumonia. He is buried in grave # 1222.
