George W. Heidt of Effingham County, Ga., enlisted November 1, 1863 at Georgetown, S.C. with Lt. Exley. Pvt. Heidt served in Co. B, 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry and on February 13, 1864 was transferred to Co. E, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

On April 18, 1864, Pvt. Heidt was detailed to go to Effingham County to get a horse and rejoin the company at Marlowville (?). Pvt. Heidt was captured at Trevillian Station, Va. on June 11, 1864 and sent to Fortress Monroe on June 20th then on July 25th transferred to Elmira N.Y. Prison. He was released July 17, 1865 and described as: complexion, fair; hair, dark; eyes, hazel; height, 5 ft. 41/2 inches.
