On April 18, 1864 Jones received leave to rejoin his company at Augusta. He was present on roll calls until he was captured June 11, 1864. He was sent to Fortress Monroe June 20th and was transferred to Elmira Prison, N.Y. on July 27, 1864.
Pvt. John G. Jones was released June 14, 1865 at Elmira. His description: residence, Savannah; complexion, florid; hair, auburn; eyes, hazel; height, 5 feet 9 inches.
