Robert Kirby enlisted May 13, 1862 in Georgetown, S.C. with Capt. Harrison. Pvt. Kirby was transferred to Co. E, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry when through consolidation it was organized February13, 1864.

Pvt. Kirby was sick with leave in April '64 and absent without leave in August. He was back on duty on 25th of September. He had been without a horse since February 1, 1864. He had a clothing issue in the late fall of 1864.

Pvt. Robert Kirby retired January 10, 1865.
