On October 15, 1863 by order of General Beauregard, Pvt. Minton transferred and served in the 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry until February 13, 1864 when the 7th Georgia Cavalry was formed through consolidation of units. At which time he was transferred to Co. E of the 7th Georgia Cavalry.

On April 18, '64, Minton was absent with leave with orders to rejoin the company at Augusta.

Pvt. J.D. Minton was present on the roll through October, 1864.
