M.F.B. Perkins was enlisted by Capt. Banks into the 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry, Company B on May 13, 1862. He served with the 21st until the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry was organized, at which time he was assigned to Company E of the 7th.

In late April 1864 he was detailed to go to No. 1, C.R.R. to acquire his horse. On June 27th Pvt. Perkins lost his horse, probably around Stoney Creek, Va. He was listed as present through December 1864. After this date very little information was recorded.
