H. Thompson enlisted June 30, 1862 in Savannah with Capt. Banks. Pvt. Thompson was with the 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry, Co. B until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. E, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

Thompson's records show that he was present through October 1864. His signature was on a clothing issue in October 1864. On October 27th he was captured near Petersburg, Va. He was sent first to City Point, Va. then to Point Lookout, Va.

Pvt. H. Thompson was released on June 8, 1865.
