Pvt. Zipperer was captured at Trevillian Station, Va. June 11, 1864 and was first taken to Fortress Monroe, Va. and then on to Point Lookout, Md. He was chosen for exchange on October 11, 1864. The actual exchange was on the 15th of October at which time he was admitted to General Hospital #9 at Richmond. He was moved to Jackson Hospital on the 16th diagnosed with chronic diarrhoea.
On October 22, 1864 he received an issue of clothing and a furlough on October 23rd. Destination, Savannah.
