John Ashmore of Liberty County, Ga. enlisted in Savannah with Capt. Banks May 13, 1862.
He served in the 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry, Co. B, later transferred to Co. E and was promoted to Corporal.
When this unit was consolidated with two others to form the 7th Regiment Georgia Cavalry,
Cpl. Ashmore was assigned to Co. F. of the 7th and retained his rank of Corporal.
As many of the men did, he spent some time in hospitals, diagnosed with chronic diarrhea.
