C.C. Bowden enlisted November 3, 1862 at Savannah with Capt. Banks. He served in 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry, Company B and later transferred to Co. E. The consolidation of the 21st, 24th and the Hardwick Mounted Rifles in creating the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry put Pvt. Bowden in Co. F of the 7th.

His records show that he was present on all roll calls until June 11, 1864 when he was wounded and his horse was captured during the Battle of Trevillian Station. Bowden was listed as sick at Gordonsville Hospital, Va. On the September / October roll he is listed as absent and issued a thirty day sick furlough on October 5, 1864.

After returning to duty he continued with the 7th and on April 9, 1865 he surrendered at Appomattox with General Lee.
