Edward M. Evans enlisted May 13, 1862 at Savannah. He was in Co. B and later Co. E, 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry until February 13, 1864 when the 21st and two other units were consolidated to form the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry. Pvt. Evans was then assigned to Company F of the 7th.

He had a short stay in a Savannah hospital. On June 11, 1864 he was captured at Louisa Courthouse, Va.. Evans was sent to Fortress Monroe, Va. June 20th and was transferred to Elmira Prison, N.Y. July 25, 1864.

Pvt. Edward M. Evans was released from prison June 3, 1865. His description: residence, Boston Ga.; complexion, darj; hair, dark; eyes hazel; height, 5 feet 113/4 inches.
