John B. Guerard enlisted July 20, 1862 at Camden County, Ga. with Capt. Ryals. Later, Sgt. Major Guerard was in the 21st Battalion. Ga Cav, Co. D until February 13, 1864 when the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry was organized through consolidation, Co. D of the 21st was then Co. F of the 7th.

Sgt. Major Guerard was detailed on Regimental N.C. Staff.

He received clothing issue in June and late fall of '64. REcords show also that he received pay for 2 months for a total of $42.00.

Sgt. Major John B. Guerard surrendered at Appomattox April 9, 1865 along with General Lee and the remaining men of the 7th.
