Troy Thomas enlisted in Company E, 21st Battalion, Georgia Cavalry on June 30, 1862 in Savannah with Capt. Banks doing the honors. Later he transferred to Company B and was with the 21st until April 13, 1864 when the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry was organized. The 7th was then comprised of the Hardwick Mounted Rifles, the 21st and the 24th.

Pvt. Thomas was on record as being absent in mid April. It appears as though he didn't make it on time to start the trip to Northern Virginia and was sent to Columbia, S.C. by railroad. Otherwise, he was listed as present through October 1864. During the Battle of Trevillian Station, his horse was captured.

One record shows where he applied for transfer in late April 1864. Later he did get his transfer to 29th Georgia Regiment.

No further Records.
