Martin Ebenezer Lycurgus Blackburn enlisted in Co. B, 50th Georgia Infantry and was discharged for disability.
Then on Sept. 22, 1862 enlisted in Co. A, 24th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry.

With the consolidation of units, M.E.L. Blackburn was transferred to Co. G, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry February 13, 1864.

He was captured at Louisa Court House, Va. June 11, 1864 and imprisoned at Elmira, NY where Private Blackburn died of chronic diarrhoea November 3, 1864..
