J.C. Fletcher enlisted September 22, 1862 at Waynesville, Ga. with Capt. T.S. Hopkins. He served in the 24th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry in Co. A. When The 7th Ga Cavalry was organized on February 13, 1864, he was transferred to Company G of the 7th.

He was promoted from 3rd Sgt. to 2nd Sgt. on April 27, 1864.

Sgt. Fletcher was reported "absent, in the hands of the enemy", having been captured at Louisa Court House, near Trevillian Station, Va. on June 11, 1864. He arrived at Fortress Monroe on June 20th and transferred to Elmira Prison, N.Y. on July 25, 1864. He was transferred for exchange on October 11, 1864.

J.C. Fletcher died on October 20, 1864.
