Gordan K. Fort was with Company A, 24th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry when the 7th Georgia Cavalry was formed through consolidation of units, including the 24th, he was elected 2nd Lt. Company G.

Lt. Fort was captured at the battle of Trevillian Station June 11, 1864. Through Fortress Monroe and Point Lookout he arrived at Ft. Delaware June 25, 1864. In August 1864 he was moved to Charleston S.C. as a member of what was later known as the Immortal 600. In October the Immortal 600 was transferred to Ft. Pulaski where they were again subjected to inhumane treatment.

On March 12, Lt. Fort was returned to Ft. Delaware where he remained until June 17, 1865 when he was released after signing an oath of allegiance. He then returned to Georgia, Wayne County.
