Charles T. Lyons enlisted September 22, 1862 at Waynesville with Capt. Hopkins. Pvt. Lyons was with the 24th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry, Co. A until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. G, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

Lyons was captured June 11, 1864 during the Battle of Trevillain Station. He was sent to Fortress Monroe on June 20th and on July 25 was transferred to Elmira Prison, N.Y.

Pvt. Charles T. Lyons died at Elmira of variola (small pox) on March 2, 1865 and was buried at Elmira in Woodlawn Cemetery grave # 2097.
