S.S. Moody enlisted September 22, 1862 at Waynesville with Capt. Hopkins. Pvt. Moody served in Co. A, 24th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. G, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

Pvt. Moody was captured June 11, 1864 during the Battle of Trevillian Station, Va. He was sent to fortress Monroe on June 20th and was transferred to Elmira Prison, N.Y. on July 25, 1864.

On October 11, '64 Pvt. Moody was selected for exchange. The transfers arrived at Point Lookout, Md. on October 14th. While at or very near Point Lookout, Pvt. S.S. Moody died of chronic diarrhoea and was buried in a graveyard near the Prisoners Camp in grave # 596.
