When the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry was organized, he was transferred to Co. G of the 7th. It was shown on the March/April Roll that he was promoted to 3rd Sgt. Sgt.

Nungazer was captured during the battle of Trevillian Station on June 11, 1864. He was sent to Fortress Monroe on June 20th and transferred to Point Lookout, Md. where he died on July 12, 1864.
