Pvt. Bandy, during the battle of Trevillian Station, was captured near Louisa Court House, Va. He was first sent to Fortress Monroe on June 20, 1864 and then to Elmira Prison, NY on July 25th.

He was chosen for exchange on October 11, 1864. The exchange was scheduled on October 29th but it appears as though Pvt. Allen Bandy died on the ship, "Northern Light" before receiving his freedom.
