Andrew Bird enlisted February 14, 1863 with the Hardwick Mounted Rifles. Capt. J.L. McAllister enlisted Pvt. Bird at Bryan County and assigned him to Company B.
With the creation of the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry through consolidating the HMR, 21st Battalion and the 24 Battalion, Andrew was assigned to Co. H of the 7th.
