The 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry was organized February 13, 1864 Brown was assigned Company H. Pvt. Brown was captured June 11, 1864 near Trevillian Station, Va. He was sent to Fortress Monroe on the 20th of June.

Brown was chosen for exchange and on September 18, 1864 he was transferred to Akens Landing, Va. He was admitted in Jackson Hospital September 22nd diagnosed with chronic diarrhoea. On September 26th he was issued a sick furlough for 30 days and received clothing at the hospital.
