Pvt. Deal was present on roll calls until June 11, 1864 when he was captured near Trevillian Station, Va. He was sent to Fortress Monroe, Va. June 20th and transferred July 25, 1864 to Elmira Prison, N.Y.
On July 11, 1865, Pvt. John Deal was released and paroled at Elmira. The description given him upon departure follows: home, Millen, Ga.; complexion, florid; hair, dark; eyes, hazel; height 5 ft. 7 inches.
