Oscar B. Gray married Eliza, daughter of Daniel Sidney Clanton and Caroline Duggar, the last of February, 1861. Then about a year later on the 15th of March, 1862 he enlisted with the Hardwick Mounted Rifles under Capt. J.L. McAllister.

With the organization of the 7th Georgia Cavalry, Pvt. Gray was transferred to Co. H of the 7th on February 13, 1864.

During the Battle of Trevillian Station, he was captured on June 11, 1864 at Louisa Court House along with many other members of the mighty little 7th.

Oscar Gray died on November 2, 1864 of pneumonia while still in prison at Elmira, NY. He is buried in grave # 804 at Elmira. His effects were buried with him.

Oscar's widow, Eliza Clanton Gray never remarried. After much "red tape" Eliza did receive his pension. John Daniel Clanton was the ordinary of Bryan County, Ga. and signed most of the attestations for her to receive the pension.
