Stanton (Stoughton) Haymans served with the Hardwick Mounted Rifles as 1st Sgt. of Co. B. until the unit was consolidated with others to form the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry in February 1864. Haymans was assigned to Co. H of the 7th, retaining his rank as 1st Sgt.

Sgt. Haymans was captured at Lousia Court House on June 11, 1864. He was sent to Fortress Monroe, Va. on June 20th and on July 25th, he was transferred to Elmira Prison, N.Y.

Sgt. Haymans was chosen for exchange on October 11, 1864. Records show that he was exchanged on October 29th. There is another record showing that he died October 30th at Fortress Monroe. (Fortress Monroe was in Yankee hands at this time.)
