J.M. Martin of Bulloch County, Ga. enlisted with the Hardwick Mounted Rifles, Co. B, on October 18, 1863 in Bryan County, being registered by J.P. Hines. Pvt Martin went on to serve with the 7th Georgia Cavalry as the Bugler of Co. H.

He became sick in July 1864 and was admitted to Pettigrew General Hospital #13 in Raleigh, N.C. on July 30th, diagnosed with acute diarrhea. He returned to duty on August 18, 1864 at which time he was issued clothing.
