William H. Hopkins of Gwinett County, enlisted October 1862 at Marietta, Ga. in an unknown unit. Transferred to Co. D, 24th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry, and on February 13, 1864 was transferred to Co. I, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

Pvt. Hopkins, in January 1865, was granted sick furlough, suffering from neurasthenias and articular rheumatism.

When command surrendered April 9, 1865, Hopkins was still on sick furlough at home.
