John H. (R.) Lester enlisted at Macon, no date nor unit specified. Pvt. Lester served in Co. I, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry until June 11, 1864. At this time he was captured Louisa Courthouse, Va. Pvt. Lester was sent to Fortreess Monroe on June 20th and on July 25th was transferred to Elmira Prison, N.Y.
Lester was chosen for exchange October 11th and was transferred to and arrived at Point Lookout October 14, '64. Pvt. John H. Lester died October 22, 1864 of chronic diarrhoea and was buried near Point Lookout, Md. in grave # 579, listed as John R. Lester.
