William Eliot Arnold was enlisted by W.L. Walthour in Liberty County, Ga. on June 17, 1862. He served in Co. A, Hardwick Mounted Rifles until the creation of the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry at which time he was assigned to Co. K of the 7th.

The March - April roll showed his, absent - sick. Soon after that he was assigned to special services with no indication as to what it was.

Pvt. Arnold was captured at Ft. McAllister on December 13, 1864. He was at Point Lookout when paroled on February 25, 1865 by order of the President. After signing an oath, special instructions were received on his release...to be released and sent to his friends in Rhode Island with orders to report to Hon. Samuel G. Arnold.
