As Sgt. Blount, he served with the HMR until February 13, 1864 when his unit along with the 21st and 24th Battalions were consolidated to form the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry. Blount continued as Sergeant in Company K of the 7th.

He was listed as present through October 1864. In October he was without a horse. Records were very scarce afterwards.
