King David Cowart of Emanuel County, enlisted April 3, 1862 with the Hardwick Mounted Rifles in Bryan County and served under J.L. McAllister in Co. A.

When the 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry was organized in February, 1864, Pvt. Cowart was assigned to Co. K of the 7th. He was indicated on the Rolls from March to October as being present. After October, there was very little records kept. When the war ended, he was in Virginia.

Soon after returning home, King David Cowart and his family moved to Lowndes County, Georgia.
