W.F. Crosby enlisted April 3, 1862 in Bryan County with Capt. J.L. McAlliter. Pvt. Crosby was with the Hardwick Mounted Rifles, Co. A until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. K, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

Pvt. W.F. Crosby was present on the roll calls until June '64 when he was hospitalized at Danville Hospital, Va. He died at the hospital June 5, 1864 diagnosed with febris typhoides. His occupation was farmer.
