William W. Davis enlisted July 31, 1863 in Bryan County with Capt. J.L. McAllister. Pvt. Davis was with the Hardwick Mounted Rifles, Co. A until, through consolidation of units, he was transferred to Co. K, 7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry.

Pvt. Davis was present on roll calls until June 11, 1864 when he was captured during the Battle of Trevillian Station. He was sent to Fortress Monroe, Va. June 20th then on July 25th '64 transferred to Elmira Prison, N.Y.

Pvt. William W. Davis was transferred for exchange October 11, '64 and was exchanged October 29, 1864.
